Security consultant and risk analyst, Prof. Emmanuel Aning, has criticized the Electoral Commission (EC) for its poor communication with the public, calling it the Commission’s biggest challenge.

In an interview with Bernard Avle on Channel One TV’s Point of View programme on Monday, Prof. Aning pointed out the EC’s failure to engage Ghanaians respectfully and clearly.

He stressed that the Commission has been either unable or unwilling to effectively address the public’s concerns, leading to frustration.

Prof. Aning also expressed disappointment in the EC’s increasingly “closed up” attitude, adding that the election management body has become dismissive of suggestions and public input.

“It is very clear that the EC’s biggest problem with the people of Ghana is its unprofessional communication outfit. Unable or unwilling to respect the concerns of Ghanaians that please talk to us in a manner that is dialogic, that is explanatory and that takes our concerns into consideration.”

“I think the EC has not been unable to [do that]. It has become closed up, dismissive of any suggestion and I think we still have about 87 days for an EC that should be engaging and that should seek to assuage people’s fears,” he stated.
