Swedru market women furious over MP’s decision to contest as Independent candidate

Some Agona Swedru market women have threatened the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the sitting Member of Parliament’s (MP) decision to contest as an Independent candidate in the upcoming election.

The MP Cynthia Mamle Morrison who was defeated in the primaries by Christ Arthur has announced her decision to contest the Agona West seat as an independent candidate.

In an encounter with the media today August 22, the market women in Agona Swedru expressed anger at their MP describing her decision as selfish and a mischievous attempt to hand over the seat to the NDC candidate.

The women strongly disagreed with the MP’s move and urged her to reconsider her decision.

They also threatened the leadership of the party, calling on them to use every means possible to reverse the situation.

According to them, they have voted for Cynthia Morrison for the past eight years, and they believe it is time for her to reciprocate by allowing the new Parliamentary candidate to have his time.

They said this move will create a problem for the party, and therefore called on the flagbearer, the national and regional executives to urgently resolve the situation.

The Parliamentary Candidate, Chris Arthur during the primaries polled 240 out of the total votes cast. His closest contender was Ben Yamoah who garnered 221 votes, whereas the incumbent MP, Cynthia Morrison obtained 152 votes.
