The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare, has assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to ensure a violence-free general election on December 7.
During a visit to selected churches in the Greater Accra Region yesterday, the IGP stressed that the police are committed to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.
Dr Dampare stated that the Police Service understands the critical importance of peaceful elections and the potential dangers of disruptions.
He added that the service has taken comprehensive measures to prevent any form of violence before, during, and after the elections.
He called on the public to support these efforts, adding that achieving a peaceful election will require collective action.
The IGP visited several churches, including the Methodist Church of Resurrection in Kpeehe, Assemblies of God Ring Road Gospel Center in Osu, Presbyterian Church of Ghana Ebenezer Congregation, and the Church of Pentecost Wyatt Assembly in Accra New Town.
He also visited the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the Ghana Police Church at 37 Accra.
Speaking to the congregants, Dr Dampare reminded them that while prayer is essential, it must be accompanied by action.
“Prayer requires action. As soon as God sees us prepared to promote peace, he starts making it easy for us to accomplish our aim,” he said.
He stressed that citizens must not only pray for peace but also act in ways that support it, ensuring that they do not become a source of disturbance.
The IGP urged Christians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could jeopardise the country’s peace.
He further appealed to them to educate their communities about the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding actions that could be exploited by individuals with ulterior motives.
Dr Dampare stated that securing peace requires the collective effort of all citizens, particularly in safeguarding against any disruptions that could arise during the election period.
“We must position ourselves as vessels of ensuring peace and unity, not sources of anything that will disturb the peace of Ghana,” he added.
The IGP called on the public to continue supporting the security agencies and remain united, pledging to safeguard the peace for future generations.
He reassured the public that the police and other security agencies are more than ready to protect theII country’s peace, urging all to stay vigilant as they prepare for the upcoming generam elections.
