The Greater Accra Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, together with the Ledzokuku Municipal Assembly has met the management of O’Reilly Senior High School following the stabbing to death of a final-year student, Edward Borketey Sackey.
The incident occurred during an argument between the deceased and a colleague over whose father was wealthier.
The school has since been plagued by an uneasy calm, with reports of a reprisal attack by a gang associated with the deceased.
Police intervention prevented the gang from attacking students and teachers, some of whom were manhandled.
A distressed parent, Gabby Galley who rushed to the school following the report told Citi News that his ward has been gripped by fear following the stabbing incident.
Meanwhile, the Greater Accra Regional Director of the GES, Stephen Abamfo has assured that a full-scale investigation has commenced to address the incident and ensure the safety of students and staff.
He said, “A student has been stabbed and was sent to hospital. Afterwards, we realised the person passed on. I sent a delegation to this school yesterday to actually find out what transpired. The way and manner, the towns people were actually rushing onto the school here and they quickly sought police protection.
“Let me take this opportunity to commend the Ghana Police Service for the good work that they have actually done to maintain peace and harmony on the compound.”
Abamfo added, “We are actually on the investigation. The case is in the hands of the police. I have also gathered some information, and I need to actually brief my Director-General of what has actually transpired.
“Then afterwards, we’ll make the public actually know the facts of the matter. The student who stabbed the colleague is in the hands of the police. The deceased is also at the morgue. Now, all that I can say is that the right information will be disseminated to you in due course.”
