Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency in the Volta Region, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed that victims of Akosombo Dam spillage are preparing to sue the government over the lack of action to resettle and compensate victims.
He made this revelation when speaking during a stakeholder hearing on the disaster on August 26.
According to him, although the committee was established to alleviate the suffering of their people after nearly a year, nothing has been done.
Okudzeto Ablakwa noted that“We don’t want this to be hidden from you. We have said that if the government does not do something about compensation, we have spoken to our lawyers, we are headed to court because it is our right. So, we don’t want to hide this from you.”
“If in the next few weeks, because next month will be the first anniversary,we have met and said that if by the first anniversary we don’t get strong indication, we don’t see actually the first group of people receiving compensation then we have no choice to resort to the court for class action,” he revealed.
