58-year-old driver has been fined GH¢900.00 by the Asante Abuakwa circuit court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality for breaking four traffic regulations at Sofoline in the Kwadaso Municipality.
Atta Poku pleaded guilty to failing to give way to a motorcade siren leading the Ashanti Regional Police
Commander, causing danger to other road users, using unapproved light and unapproved roof rack.
He was convicted on his own plea by the court presided by Mrs Philomena Asiedu and will serve a 46- month jail term in default of the one.
Police Chief Inspector Richard Amissah, prosecuting told the court that, the complainant in the
case was the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Frank Abrokwah, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander.
He said, on January 25, this year, at about 1:00pm, the Commander and his three other officers attended an official duty at Nkawie and were returning to Kumasi.
Upon reaching Asuoyeboah, the team spotted the convict driving his sprinter bus with registration number AS 2912-12 in traffic and was signaled to give way, but he failed and upon all warnings he obstructed their movement till they reached Sofoline.
Prosecution said, the Regional Commander instructed the duty men at Sofoline to arrest the convict and hand him over to the Kumasi Central Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) for further action.
According to the Prosecution, inspection made on the vehicle indicated that the convict used unapproved light and roof bar, and these offences were pointed out to him and after investigation, he was processed, charged, and brought before the court.

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has cautioned the general public, particularly job seekers, to be wary of fraudulent recruitment adverts, circulating on social media platforms.
According to the GIS, these misleading recruitment messages are the handiwork of fraudsters, who aim to exploit desperate job seekers, by luring them into making payments through mobile money platforms with the promise of securing employment.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (ACI), Mr Amoako-Atta, copied The Ghanaian Times, yesterday, categorically denied any ongoing recruitment exercise by GIS, and urged the public to disregard such advertisements.
“The Service is not undertaking any recruitment exercise as advertised on social media. These persons are fraudsters who are only duping innocent job seekers of their hard-earned money,” the GIS cautioned.
The statement further stated that the GIS has not sanctioned any individual or group to carry out recruitment on its behalf whether as special protocol or general recruitment.
It reiterated that the only official medium for announcing recruitment exercises remains the national newspapers and the Service’s verified communication channels.
“It is important to note that when the Service is ready to recruit, it will inform the general public through advertisements in the national dailies,” the GIS emphasised.
The statement cautioned the public not to fall prey to such scams, and advised against paying any money to persons posing as recruitment agents.
Moreover, the GIS also called on individuals, who encounter such fraudsters, to report to the nearest GIS office or the Police for the necessary legal action to be taken.
ACI Amoako-Atta reaffirmed GIS’s commitment to transparency and accountability in its operations and advised the public to remain vigilant and to seek verification before engaging with any recruitment-related communications.
The GIS’s warning comes at a time when youth unemployment continues to pose a major challenge in the country, making many young people vulnerable to fraudulent schemes.

The Central Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the transportation of some electricity cables believed to be the property of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
The suspects, Mohammed Sulemana and Iddrisu Basit, both driver’s mates of an articulated truck, were arrested on April 1, 2025 at Gomoa Awombrew in the Central Region.
The truck, with registration number GC 7410-11, loaded with 28 rims of ECG cables was found parked at Gomoa Awombrew.
Officials from ECG, led by their Operations Officer, Mr. David Ackom, confirmed ownership of the cables but stated that no such consignment was expected in the area.
The truck, remains under police guard at Gomoa Awombrew while efforts are ongoing to arrest the truck driver, Zibo Imoro, who is currently on the run.

Investigation continues.

The Twifo-Hemang District Court, presided over by Mr Maxwell Ofori Kpodo, has sentenced a 50-year-old man, Eric Adu Amissah, to six years imprisonment for sexually assaulting seven girls at Twifo-Heman in the Heman Lower Denkyira District.
The victims, all minors between the ages of six and seven, are pupils at a cultural dance school operated by the convict.
According to Chief Inspector Joseph Kussah, the Prosecutor, Adu Amissah, a choreography teacher, exploited his position as a cultural dance instructor to abuse the trust of his young pupils.
The convict allegedly used manipulative tactics, including buying soft drinks and toffees for the children and later apply lubricant on his penis and fingers to facilitate the abuses.
The act was detected after the girls fell sick, one after the other and were sent to the hospital by their parents where they admitted that they have been defiled by Adu Amissah.
Adu Amissah, according to the prosecutor, jumped bail for six months after being granted bail during the initial stage of the investigation.
However, through the vigorous efforts of the Central North Regional Police Cyber Unit, the convict was located and arrested at Adenta in the Greater Accra Region.
On March 5, 2025, Adu Amissah was brought before the Twifo-Hemang District Magistrates Court to face seven counts of indecent assault, and he pleaded guilty to all counts.
He was, therefore, convicted on his own plea by the court. –GNA
