Prof. Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo chairs new NTC board

The National Media Commission (NMC) yesterday appointed new board members for the four state-owned media organisations to govern their operations.
This is in accordance with article 168 of the Constitution and section 2(1) (e) of the Commission Act, 1993 (Act 449), in consultation with the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

A statement signed yesterday and issued by the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Commission, Mr Alexander Bannerman, announced former Vice Chancellor of the University of Media, Art and Communication, Professor Kwamena Kwansah-Aidoo, as the board Chairman for the New Times Corporation.
The other members are: Mr Kwesi Adjei Kersi, Dr Theresa Larteley Adu, Lawrence Roland Satuh, Dr Charity Binka, Mr Julio De-Medeiros, Mr Samuel S Sarfo, Mr Abdul Moomin Gbana and Managing Director, Mr Martin Adu-Owusu.

Hon. LlSamuel Nartey George (MP), Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations emphasized that the One Million Coders program is a flagship program of the John Mahama-led administration.
According to him, the program aims to equip young people with essential digital skills, demonstrating the government’s commitment to empowering the youth and bridging the digital divide.
The Minister was of the view that the initiative will create opportunities for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, promoting digital inclusion and reducing inequality, adding, the launch of the One Million Coders programme within the 120-day social contract period showcases President Mahama’s focus on delivering on his promises National Communications Authority

SIC Insurance pays GH¢1.54m insurance claim to GCB Bank PLC

SIC Insurance PLC has paid an insurance claim of GH¢c1.54 million to GCB Bank PLC under GCB Bank’s Bankers Blanket Policy.
Presenting a cheque to the bank’s Deputy Managing Director (Finance), Mr Socrates Afram, on Monday at a brief ceremony at GCB Bank’s Head office in Accra, the Acting Managing Director of SIC Insurance PLC, Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, expressed his appreciation to the bank for its continuous business relations with SIC Insurance PLC over the years.
He reminded the business and insurance communities that SIC Insurance PLC was stable, financially strong and paid claims on time.
Mr Agyenim-Boateng urged the business community to prioritise doing business with the SIC.
Mr Agyenim-Boateng said apart from the payment made to GCB Bank, SIC Insurance PLC recently paid $1 million in claims to a client in Accra and $780,000 to another company in Tema.
“At SIC Insurance PLC, we value our relationship with GCB Bank, we take our promises seriously as our promises are sacred. Continue to stand by us and when bad times come, we will chase you with your cheque to come and present to you,” he said.
For his part, the Deputy Managing Director (Finance) of GCB Bank PLC, Mr Afram, said the bank cherished its relationship with SIC, adding that it has been mutually beneficial to the two institutions.

Government appointees serving on the fourth assembly of the La Dade-Kotopon Municipal Assembly (LaDMA) have been urged to use their expertise to help the assembly achieve its development goals.
The Presiding Member (PM) for LaDMA, Emmanuel Nyarko Baah, made the call at short swearing-in ceremony of five new appointees of the assembly at La on Monday.
According Mr Baah, the inclusion of the appointees was very critical to the decision making process of the assembly, adding that their presence in addition to the elected assembly members would help the assembly attain its two-thirds majority during meetings.
“You were appointed because of your vast expertise so you cannot sit down with us at meetings without sharing your knowledge on how best the assembly could attain its developmental goals” he said.
The PM pleaded with the appointees to work closely with all assembly members in their respective electoral areas to offer prompt suggestions on urgent developmental matters in the area.
“You are assembly members without electoral area but with the oversight responsibilities and powers over all the 10 electoral areas in the municipality, you are to offer suggestions on sensitive matters that needs urgent attention” he said.
MrBaahaslo stated that the assembly is planning a training workshop for the appointees in order to help them come to speed on their daily activities as members of the assembly.
On behalf of the Appointees, Francis Ken Kofi Anderson expressed their appreciation to the President for the appointment and pledged to discharge their duties effectively for the benefit of the communities at La.
The appointees, who were made up of three male and two female, were sworn in by the La District Court Magistrate, Justice Adwoa D. Asumadu-Sekye.
They are Ms Karen Naa Dromo Barnes Asare, Ms Augustina Abbey, Miyemliniaba Nii Adjei Asua Qweeni, Mr Francis Ken Kofi Anderson and Mr John Nartey Doku.
