PHOTOS: Black Stars hold training at Grande Stade Al Hoceima ahead of FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar

The Black Stars held their official training at Grande Stade Al Hoceima on Sunday in preparation for their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Madagascar.

Otto Addo’s men appeared sharp and lively during training under the lights, following their arrival in Morocco on Saturday. All 23 players are in good condition ahead of the crucial Group I game, scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025.

Ghana recorded a resounding victory against Chad on Friday, climbing to the top of the table with 12 points. They aim to cement their position with a victory over Madagascar.

The Group I fixture is scheduled to kick off at 19:00 Hrs at Grande Stade Al Hoceima, Morocco. Our Chief Photographer sent us back these photos:

Premier League: Winless streak continues for Hearts of Oak after home loss to Nations FC

Defender Razak Simpson scored a sensational piledriver for Nations FC in their 1-0 win over Hearts of Oak at the Tuba Astro Turf on Thursday April 3, 2025.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when the Black Stars defender capitalised on a defensive lapse, controlled the ball, and fired a powerful volley into the net.

The Phobians endured another frustrating afternoon as they suffered their seventh defeat of the season.

The latest setback extends Hearts of Oak’s winless run to four matches, putting coach Aboubakar Ouattara under huge pressure.

The result also sees them fall further behind league leaders and rivals Asante Kotoko, who now hold an eight-point advantage.

Nations FC’s victory moves them back into the top four as they continue their strong campaign, while Hearts have slipped to 6th position with 37 points.

Ghana’s Theophilus Akugre selected for 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt

Ghana’s Theophilus Aberenga Akugre has been selected among 56 officials for training in Cairo ahead of the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Akugre, an assistant referee, joins 14 other assistant referees from across the continent who will officiate during the biennial tournament, scheduled for April 27 – May 19, 2025.

Theophilus Akugre has been on the radar of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following successful training programs last year.

 In May 2024, Akugre traveled to Cairo alongside Reginald Collins Amoah and Seth Abletor for the new CAF/FIFA Referee Course.

This marks the second Ghanaian referee assigned to a tournament this year. Centre Referee Reginald Collins Amoah is currently in Morocco for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, where he officiated the match between Somalia and Tunisia on Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

Premier League: Asante Kotoko reclaim top spot; Five goal thriller sees Vision FC bag win; Aduana snatch late draw

Asante Kotoko have reclaimed the top spot after a narrow 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea in an outstanding matchday 21 of the Premier League on Wednesday April 2, 2025.

Daniel Adjetey’s 74th minute strike separated the two teams at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Gold Stars FC knocked the Porcupine Warriors off the summit on Tuesday after they beat Heart of Lions 2-1 at home. But Kotoko have responded in impressive style by beating Chelsea 1-0 in Kumasi to reclaim the top spot.

Kotoko have amassed 45 points while Chelsea remain in mid-table with 32 points.

Vision FC bag win in five goal thriller 

Vision FC snatched all three points after beating defending champions FC Samartex 1996 3-2 in a five goal thriller at home on Wednesday.

Daniel Yemoh bagged a brace while Nana Kwesi Amoah scored a sensational ‘Olimpico’ to deliver the side’s first victory in over five matches.

Yemoh scored first in the 10th minute before Mohammed Mankuyeli pulled parity five minutes later. Yemoh put the home side in front with a sublime finish at the end of the first half before Emmanuel Mamah scored the equaliser. Yemoh performed a piece of skill not often seen: scoring directly from a corner, to seal victory for Vision FC at the Nii Adjei Kraku 11 Sports complex in Tema.

This is Samartex first defeat since the turn of the year after an impressive nine match unbeaten streak.

Vision FC lie 13th while FC Samartex find themselves in 10th position in the league table.

Karela United stay above relegation zone

Karela United beat struggling Legon Cities 2-0 to stay just two points above the relegation zone.

A goal in each half from Abdul Latif and Ibrahim Gyasi secured the decisive victory for the Pride and Passion at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

United lie 15th in the table while Legon Cities find themselves in the bottom three with 21 points.

Aduana survives Young Apostles scare

Aduana FC scored at the death to draw 2-2 against Young Apostles in the Bono derby on Wednesday.

Two goal hero Emmanuel Opoku scored 90+6 to sniff a point against a resilient Apostles side at the Nana Agyemang Badu I park.

Opoku put the Fire Club in front in the 60th minute before Mathias Amege pulled parity five minutes later. Razak Sarpong put the visitors in front with a superb finish in the 78th minute before Emmanuel Opoku popped up to equalised with the last kick of the match.

Rejuvenated Dreams FC in cruise control 

Dreams FC continued their resurgence with a narrow 1-0 win over Bechem United at home on Wednesday.

Joseph Esso’s 14th minute strike separated the two teams at the Tuba Astro Turf.

The Believers have jumped to 8th in the table after a remarkable turnaround following a difficult start to the season.
